April 7, 2019, will mark Cal’s first ever analog game convention, BGB Con. Organized by Board Games at Berkeley, the university’s board game club, we’ll be taking in several thousand members of the gaming public for an on-campus event running from 10-7pm. The convention will take place in the amazing Pauley Ballroom space in the Martin Luther King building located in the center of campus life.

We have several gaming themed areas planned. First off will be a large board gameplay area. Stocked with a huge library of board games we’ll also have game gurus moving from table to table explaining games. BGB Con will also cater to fans of digital gaming. With both VR and esports businesses, alongside student organizations, on hand, there will be a large array of video games to play as well. Vendors and local businesses will both be present, as will a massive board game thrift sale area where gamers can buy, sell, and trade games. Industry experts, game designers and more will all be present for a rotating cast of speakers. Finally, a range of tournaments, game design competitions, card game drafts, raffles and more will run throughout the day. We have many more surprises in store, and that’s where you come in.

We’ve set aside a large section of the convention for outside organizations and vendors. Depending on various planning restraints we’ll likely be able to provide a 10 X 10 ft space with 1-2 tables. We’d love to see members of the 501st at the event taking photos and showing off their armor. We’re also planning to hold Star Wars X-Wing and Armada games, perhaps we can get you involved? We’re very open to your ideas and suggestions. Please let us know what you’re hoping to accomplish. Also Star Wars X-Wing Mario Kart!

Charitable Organization: Jack Vassel Memorial Fund: We’ll be donating a percentage of ticket sales to this charity.

Per the event requester, the con hours are now 10am to 7pm.

From the ER: “Volunteers should enter from sproul plaza between 8-10 am and we’ll unlock the doors for them. The building will be closed so that there is more privacy.

Also our Mario Kart X-Wing is slated for 1pm. The organizer would be happy to have members of the Garrison there!”
