[2025-06-17] Ribbon Cutting/Opening Celebration: STAR WARS | Alamo Drafthouse Mountain View | Tue Jun 17,2025 5PM-6:30PMTeam Lead: Diana Wolf Torres
Venue: Alamo Drafthouse Mountain View
Venue address: 2575 California St., Suite 99, Mountain View, CA 94040
Arrival Time: Tuesday 6/17/25 4:00 PM
Appearance Start: Tuesday 6/17/25 5:00 PM
Appearance End: Tuesday 6/17/25 6:30 PM
Expected number of attendees: 250
Requested number of characters: 30
NOTE: If we do not get minimum of 2 troopers and 1 non-costume handler, we will decline this event.
Requested character types: It’d be awesome to have the big man (Vader), and if it’s practical, R2-D2(s) and/or any other droids, and beyond that, certainly OT-era would be preferred if folks have multiple outfits. Otherwise, I know we’re making the ask a week out for an event starting at 5pm on a Tuesday, so really any era is fine. We’d just like to make a splash and show the fans a good time (including the 501st).
Secure changing/staging area: Yes, I’ve also secure an empty theater before and after the appearance for dressing,
Handler/Photographer: Yes
Weapons/Masks: Yes (No restrictions)
LFL Guidelines for this event (these have been shared with Alamo Drafthouse):
- Fan groups can only appear in the theater lobby prior to the movie screening. They are not allowed to participate in the theater opening ceremonies and we’d prefer that they not participate in the VIP reception. Costumed fans and droids are allowed to appear once the public starts showing up.
- Costumed fans must be referred to by fan group name and not as official Star Wars characters.
- Fan group appearances should not be advertised ahead of the event. However please feel free to post about their appearance during and after the event.
- Backdrops- backdrops would need to be provided by the fan groups if they have any available.
Parking: Garage parking

Event description: This is a ribbon-cutting event at our new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema location in Mountain View. We needed to make a pivot from a previous plan, so our friends at Disney made A NEW HOPE available for us* – hence the short notice. I selected 30 as a somewhat arbitrary number. This is short notice and we’d love to welcome any of the members who can attend, whether it’s 1 or 40. FWIW, I selected “All characters” but all things being equal, Original Trilogy characters would be preferred. I’m noting the event “start” at 5pm because there’ll be a small reception for VIP guests starting then and the public arriving early for the *free* public screening itself, which would begin around 6pm with 20-30 minutes of introductions and speeches. The event itself would include brief speeches from the mayor of Mountain View, the Chamber of Commerce, and our CEO. Depending on who from your team is able to participate, I’d love to collaborate on a few ideas based on prior events. For instance, this is an event I worked with the Austin 501st on ten years ago for TFA: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1179837445405142 We’ll absolutely be able to hold seats for the performers from our seat block, but depending on the response it might be tight – I’ll allot twenty for now, but if you have a sense of how many are likely, let me know ASAP. I’ve also secure an empty theater before and after the appearance for dressing, and might be able to use that space for a second screening for the performers. We’ve also got a lot of open and empty space at the site, so we can support droids and other fun stuff as well. Apologies for the short notice, but hope we can put something fun together. Feel free to gimme a call with thoughts and questions!

Signing up as TK. An officer and four TKs. Nice.
I can do Vader if one hasn’t already signed up.
I am a friends +1 for this, but he’s with the press and is invited to the VIP opening stuff and I’m not, so I have an hour to kill from 5 until the 6PM opening for the public. I can be an extra handler for an hour, then I’ll be going with my friend. I won’t sign up since I will only be there for an hour, but I’ll be able to help out.
Nice turnout!!! Seems like we already have 5 TKs, might switch to TI to pari with Nader’s.

All troopers present and accounted for! Many thanks to Michelle for handling and Sam for taking photos.
Before the event, our on-site contact, Bridget, took us on a walk-through of the site where we met with other members of the Alamo Drafthouse team. We discussed what we be doing and even had time for “blocking” of how we would be entering and exiting so we could work out any potential issues (such as the Rebels and Imperials probably shouldn’t enter from the same side. Simple fix: we entered from opposite sides of the room.) With this prior rehearsal, the event went off without issues.
We headed out of the green room at 5 PM to take photos by the backdrop and greet guests as they came up the escalator. At 6 PM, we took a brief water break for heading in for our big “entrance” into the theater. We took a photo with the crowd and exited again.
We suited down and were then invited to stay for the movie. Alamo was kind enough to provide us with popcorn and dinner (items ordered off their regular menu such as a burger or sandwiches.) We left the site together after the movie at 9 PM.
