    Hey GGG,

I want to share this from the LCOG, they wanted to take a moment and speak about a matter that has come up and affected several people around the legion and many of your home Garrisons over the last few months. It is regarding the use of our costumes for personal events.

Every one of us has spent a ton of time, effort, and money on our costumes and they are our personal property. The Legion or the Garrison does not own your property and ultimately cannot stop you from doing what you want to do in your costumes. The 501st Legion and each of your Garrisons have rules and outlines for our protection as troopers, but also for the protection of our club. The rules in place are an agreement you make by being a part of this club.

Several members here and all around the world feel that if they simply state that they are not representing our club they do not have to follow our rules. Some of them engage conduct that is unbecoming of a trooper:
    -drinking in costume
    -blatant advertising for companies
-taking inappropriate photos (like flipping the bird or other derogatory gestures)
-attending events that otherwise would not be allowed
-inviting suspended members to events (even if under the guise of another clubs banner)
    -other examples

While the 501st has zero jurisdiction over non members, if you choose to engage in behaviors like this that could damage the club by your association you are putting your membership with our club at risk.

The LCOG office has a very simple view, protect the membership, protect the IP. If you are engaging in activities that are clearly in violation of our charter or OP then disciplinary action can and possibly will be taken. We typically do a pretty good job avoiding this type of infraction, but it does happen from time to time.

The LCOG office of the 501st is also working with the LCOG’s of other groups so that if you are suspended from one, your membership in the other MAY be affected at the same time. Using another clubs banner to skirt the rules is not acceptable for us or our sister groups. We are all One Galaxy with One Goal and we need to work together to ensure that we are all able to continue doing all the good that we do.

Thank you Vince for sharing the position of the LCOG and clarifying how the Legion may respond to unsanctioned use of SW character IP costumes that may be mistaken as representatives of the 501st.
